Iyengar Yoga for Hormonal Balance
12:50 pm - 1:50 pm
Suzanne Fraser

In this one hour class at the Yamba Yoga Festival we will explore the endocrine system & practice a range of asanas in ways that will support hormonal balance. Over many years of practicing, observing and teaching Iyengar Yoga, Geeta Iyengar realised the need to adapt a women’s yoga practice with not only her menstrual cycle but the cycles of her life. I have been in attendance at many of Geeta’s workshops and classes that have been presented on this topic. I have also created keynote presentations on ‘Iyengar Yoga for Hormonal Balance’ & taken them to Yoga retreats, workshops and classes in Australia & abroad. Everyone is welcome to join in this enlightening exploration of Iyengar Yoga.

Iyengar Yoga for Breast Care
9:45 am - 10:45 am
Gretchen Highfield

I first experienced yoga as a baby crawling around under my mother, Suzanne, while she practiced. She was a Satyananda student at that time and we regularly went to the Ashram at Glennifer in the 1980's. She was introduced to Iyengar Yoga when I was a teenager and I loved its faster pace, precision alignment and stronger practice. I qualified to teach about 12 years ago and have been teaching classes on the Mid North Coast and taking international retreats, while raising a family, ever since. After finding a lump in my breast 2 years ago and having a lumpectomy to remove the breast cancer, I have been researching yoga (and diet and essential oils etc) for breast care, which I will include in my class at this festival. I look forward to my session and meeting you all.

Yoga for the Yoni Workshop
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Meredith

In the Indian tradition, the Yoni is the divine passage, or the source of life. The Yoni is both womb and vagina. Tantric teachings do not consider yoni just as a female sex organ, but a temple where the Feminne essence is to be honoured and is associated with the Divine power of Shakti. The health of our sexual organs is vital not only on a physical level but emotionally and spiritually. It is a sacred integral part of our feminine body, which holds the power of both pleasure and creation. Unfortunately in our culture of main stream western society, it is a much “supressed “ topic . This workshop invites all women who want to stay connected or start to learn how to reconnect back to the most potent energy centre of their body. We’ll begin by working with the Annamaya Kosha. In the yogic tradition this is known as the sheath of physical sensation. I guide you through a breath and relaxation process, inviting you to embody and cultivate a deeper physical and sensory presence. We explore basic Yoni anatomy with the intention of awakening important nerves endings while connecting your cognitive centre to activate your ability to feel sensation throughout the pelvic floor. We will then look at safe simple asansas that will help strengthen the supporting muscles . By consciously working on the muscles in the pelvic floor, the mind/body connection is established and they become stronger, healthier, and energetically connected to the body. In the long term, this means more blood flow, energy, and awareness to the tissues as we experience the yoni awakening . It may also us to gain personal empowerment to heal our own traumas. Introduction to the jade egg in closure of contents of work shop as this is a major influence in my teachings of connecting to the feminine essence .
